Coast Guard medevacs boy, 13, who fell on fishing boat

A Coast Guard helicopter crew medevaced a 13-year-old showing signs of a seizure after a fall on a commercial fishing boat in Prince William Sound Saturday afternoon.

The teenager, who has not been identified, was on the fishing vessel Golden Pacific when he fell 18 feet, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

When he started showing signs of seizure activity — a sign of a potential head injury — about a half-hour later an EMT aboard the boat called for help, according to the Coast Guard.

A Cordova-based Coast Guard helicopter crew traveled to the boat, which was near the island of Chenega in the southwest part of Prince William Sound.

It arrived around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, said Petty Officer 2nd Class Meredith Manning.

Manning said she didn't know whether the boy was working on the boat. She said he had a family member with him.
