Fight between East Anchorage neighbors ends with one shot to death, police say

A 29-year-old man was shot to death Thursday evening during a fight outside an East Anchorage residence, police said.

Officers responded at about 6:30 p.m. to a report of a shooting on the 1500 block of Hoyt Street near DeBarr Road and Bragaw Street. They found David Rodriguez shot in the upper body.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Two adult male neighbors got into a fight outside the residence of one, police spokesman MJ Thim said. One shot the other, Thim said.

The shooter was taken into custody and questioned, then released with no charges filed, he said. "Self-defense hasn't been ruled out."

Detectives are interviewing several witnesses to the shooting, Thim said.
