State prosecutors have charged former Bethel state Rep. Zach Fansler with misdemeanor harassment, nearly five months after a woman said he slapped her in his Juneau hotel room.

Fansler, who resigned in February, was charged in Juneau District Court this week with a single count of harassment in the second degree. An initial hearing in his case is set for June 21.

Officials at the state law department said last week that prosecutors had reached a deal with Fansler in which he would plead guilty to the charge.

Fansler did not immediately respond to a request for comment Thursday.
