Forty-six athletes are participating in the Alaska Biathlon Camp at Kincaid Park this week. The camp, hosted by the Alaska Biathlon Association, includes some who are new to the sport and others who have international competition experience at the junior level.
Coaches include Tim Burke, a four-time Olympian who recently retired from his competitive career. Burke, of Lake Placid, New York, is now development manager for U.S. Biathlon.
"I think with the skiing culture here, there's a lot of potential," Burke said of his visit to Alaska.
He's joined by Marine Dusser, a former member of the French national team, now an assistant coach for UAA's cross country ski team. Burke said the camp will wrap up Saturday with a low-key race among participants.
