A football team named the Champions looked like champions Friday night at East High.

Cesar Chavez High School of Phoenix manhandled the top-ranked T-birds 40-14, using a no-huddle offense and speedy defenders to keep East off-balance, especially early in the game.

The Champions led 14-0 after the first quarter and 21-0 early in the second quarter.

East finally got on the scoreboard late in the first half when quarterback Kalani Medeiros scored on a short run to make it 21-7 at the half.

The Champions built their lead to 40-7 before the T-birds tacked on a touchdown late in the game.

In other action Friday, Bartlett and West both waltzed to victory and Soldotna got back on the winning track in decisive fashion.

The Stars, whose 59-game winning streak ended last week when West defeated them 18-13, rebounded by pummeling North Pole 66-19 in Soldotna.

In Anchorage, Bartlett pounded South 60-27 and West crushed Juneau 55-9.
